"Garfield's Guide to Lasagna: Cooking Nature's Perfect Food" by Rebecca E. Hirsch

A fun coobook for kids, guided by the laziest cat in the world and his favorite food: Lasagna!

As a fan of Garfield myself, it's a treat finding this adorable cookbook guided by the laziest cat in world. I'm not crazy obssessed about the orange cat, but it's a cartoon character I grew up with since childhood and stuck with him throughout the years. His dry, sarcastic humor makes it fun and I couldn't pass the opportunity to acquire this book because of it—a cookbook of all things. Author Rebecca E. Hirsch provided an easy, approachable recipe book for kids, that's basic enough to follow, and encourage them to cook Garfield's favorite food of all-time: lasagna. You know very well that lasagna is one of the most hearty, stomach-filling comfort food you can ever dine on that leaves you with a big smile on your face. Makes you wonder why Garfield loves it so much.

A cookbook that's less than fifty pages long, the book starts with a little history of lasagna, where it originated and the addition of tomatoes being added in the recipe. If you want to know, lasagna likely started in Britain but wasn't until later that the recipe was perfected in Italy. Reading that, you get an illustration of Garfield reading lasagna history to his best pal Pookie. The pages after that are instructions for kids encouraging them about kitchen safety and getting an adult to help them before cooking, and to clean up as well. Then comes the recipes which are as follows:

Not bad for a simple cookbook that kids will love! And yes, when I was a kid, I, too, despised dishes that included vegetables. Entering into a decade where health is of the utmost importance, there's no stressing enough about the key ingredients in veggies. Kids, if you're reading this, don't upset your parent(s)/guardian(s): Develop a taste for vegetables. Why? Less doctor visits is a reason, because when I was a child, being in the hospital scared and intimidated me a lot; Medicine and injections also made me uncomfortable (even today). With fruits and veggies, you can worry less about taking medicine and needles poking you. And that means you'll be able to go outside, play ball, climb trees, play freeze tag or ride on the swings without side effects!

Thr recipes are then followed by an introduction to Garfield, his profile, along with three sample comics he appears in, all of which are related to his love of lasagna. Index and Further Information wrap up the cookbook.

Given that this book was published and released in 2020 makes this a fresh title to pick up and read. Your child(ren) will love this book, and being able to have Garfield as their guide. Whether they're fans of Garfield or not, this book includes many of his posse which includes Odie, Jon, Arlene, and Nermal (other characters like Liz do not make an appearance).

Garfield fans, aspiring chefs and/or children alike, we highly recommend this book! You're going to develop a huge love for lasagna after owning this. Oh, and if you're really hungry, try eating lasagna sandwiched between two slices of pizza. Should you purchase and own this book, you'll understand why we made such suggestion.
