"Daedalian Opus" (Game Boy)

An underrated game based on logic puzzle-solving. As the challenges increase, the game can be beaten presented a nice ending.

If you're a huge handheld video gaming fan, it's games like this that slides to the market but doesn't get enough recognition nor does it profusely force you to purchase at first glance. Possibly the neat part, by looking at it, is the unique artwork design on the box.

The music on the title screen is something you'd hear from a platforming or action game. The controls are solid and the graphics are simple but your typical, 8-bit design for the Game Boy. Okay, so what's this game about? It's a puzzle game.

The goal of this game is to complete the puzzles in each house you enter in, presented by each island. Navigating and choosing each puzzle piece is self-explanatory—the A button rotates the piece, the B button inverts the piece horizontally. The goal is to properly fit all the provided pieces into the board to advance to the next level. As usual, upper levels get more and more difficult with the board and the number of puzzle pieces to fill the board. Luckily, if some levels are too complicated to solve, there's a password system where you can input and continue where you left off, if you had to turn the game off, step away and cool your brain.

Now, if you're one of those wanting to charge through the game without triggering steam from your head, yes, you can look up the answers on the internet. The ending on this game isn't too boring but wasn't too impressive. Let my gameplay do the talking:

Yeah, that's very much it without any credits or anything.

While it's one of those humble games, the game does present a good, sometimes insane, challenge to those who enjoy logic puzzles. However, since the answers are readily available on the internet, there's not much extra features that this game brings.

Not too bad as we recommend this, though we're sure that after a few plays, you won't play this game again. As for collectors, this is not a hard game to find since it's not too rare.

Game Title Daedalian Opus
Description (dĭ-dā´lē•ən ō´pəs)

The ancient land of Daedalus is governed by symmetry and time. It is a land where your progress will be severely tested by the challenge of myriad shapes and blocks. It will take the art of Daedalus and the power of your mind to solve the confounding riddles of the blocks. To be beaten is ordinary, to achieve victory is an art.
An Overview In the World of Daedalus there are puzzle houses on each of the 42 islands of this very puzzling land. On the first island there are no bridges and no ships. When you enter the puzzle house on this island you will find 3 Daedalian blocks. Your task is to fill up the frame in front of you with the blocks. There can be no space remaining ! When this has been done, a bridge will appear, and you can go on to the next island.

However, you are in an apprentice stage until you get up to a point where you are using 12 blocks. While in this stage, you will find three blocks at the first island. When the sprite appears over the bridge, you will get another block and go on to the next island by passing through the puzzle house. Only when you have gotten by your apprentice stage with 12 blocks, does the real game begin !

You will encounter many different types of frames. Some will be very challenging, but don't give up ! When you have mastered all the puzzles on all islands up to 41, you will be confronted by island 42, where your final task awaits you. Here you will be presented with 13 blocks. Good luck !
