Money Market Review (10/27/2025-10/31/2025)

A week filled with ups and downs, yet ended on a strong note.

With the government still shutdown and leaving the "spooks," it's actually been a decent week. Some days were a bit mixed despite Feds announcing rate cuts at 0.25%, but things finished nicely on Halloween day. Stocks like Amazon and Apple continue to do well with sales peaking as usual, especially with Apple's iPhone. Time to recap all that's happened and see how things were:

Sandisk Corporation, Inc. -5.19%
Newmont Corporation, Inc. -5.69%
USA Rare Earth, Inc. -8.36%
DuPoint de Nemours, Inc. -47.54%

Off the bat, Amazon looked to cut 30,000 jobs as they were considering AI. For job cuts, Paramount looked to do the same despite having an interest in merging/buying Warner Bros Discovery. Also, flights continue to delay due to government shutdown, which will likely be the longest in history With a great start of the week, job cuts were the name of Monday's game.

Biggest story for this day was Paypal being the official 'wallet' for ChatGPT. That's right: Paypal partnered with OpenAI to enable purchases while using the LLM. Amazon's job cuts commence with 14,000 removed, announcing more on the way. It's wasn't just Amazon and Paramount, UPS announces 48,000 jobs cuts in management and operations. The biggest headline on this day was there are currently more unemployed people than there are job openings. Still a rough time for job seekers, but for the market, it still resulted in a decent day.

Jerome Powell made his announcement this day. As expected, the rate cut became set at 0.25% leaving a handful of stocks on the downturn. This was possibly the biggest story, as some of the bigger companies still continued layoffs, while stocks related to AI still thrive. Oh, speaking of AI, companies specializing in digital storage have been hot most of the week (i.e., Western Digital).

Stocks didn't end as well, despite coming off of the rate cut. However, Amazon and Apple reporting their earnings this day. Despite the layoffs, Amazon is still doing well; Apple's earnings continues to rise thanks to their iPhone sales. Adding to these reports, Mark Zuckerberg states that expenses will grow rapidly in 2026 than this year. We think he means spending on AI, as his company has been building plenty of data centers.

What a great way to close the week! Nothing spooky here, as stocks ended on a high note. However, here's the "scary" part on this Halloween day: Stocks specializing in education have plummeted. Not sure if schools have this day off or what, but those invested in education found that this wasn't a great day. As usual, stocks in relation to quantum computing continue their dominance albeit its volatile value. While things closed this week in a great way, education-based stocks saw red on Halloween.

MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW FOR THIS WEEK (10/27/2025-10/31/2025)

This week started well, then the rate cuts were announced which sort of plummeted, then went back up again. It wasn't that erratic a trade week as initially thought, compared to last week. Since the government is still shutdown, that didn't stop some stocks from seeing "green." According to Schwab Network, plenty of tech companies and their stocks have made so many moves; Nvidia had plenty of partnerships form this week. The energy required to power these data centers, plus water to cool it off, is immense, but I digress. Federal rate cuts waits in December for the official announcement, and since it's only November, the markets will be interesting from here. We're officially heading into holiday season, and I've stated that consumer spending may not be enough to save some of these stocks; then again, that could change. I'll predict a more steady market, but even if government re-opened, there won't be too many changes. It will just be another day at the office, so to speak.

How did you do with investing and trading this week? What did you think about the rate cuts? Let's talk about it in the comments section below!
