Money Market Review (11/24/2025-11/28/2025)
A rallying week to be thankful for.

Rebounding from a rough week is a good feeling. Stocks were mostly high this week, despite markets being closed on Thanksgiving Day. While the tech sector continues to rally as usual, some moves by companies bares reporting, while others had to cut their workforce(s). Being a short week, there were still some interesting moves that happened, while the crypto side saw a gain, having recovered from an awful week—month, no less.

Starting this week was President Trump planning to lower health costs. On the retail side, Kohl's named their CEO Michael Bender, who was the company's interim previously. Speaking of retail, Alibaba down 16% from a 52-week high, but all is not lost with them. Alibaba's app Qwen, which is their competitor to ChatGPT has had 10M downloads, so they're doing just fine. While we're in tech, Alphabet surpasses Microsoft in market cap. That's likely due to AI, as President Trump signs "Genesis Mission" as a move to boost automated innovation. Lastly, Bolt partners with Pony.ai to get driverless cars in Europe. One big surprise was the report of Apple laying off workers from their sales organization. That's surprising coming from a company valued in the trillions.

For those planning Thanksgiving which involves a long drive are in luck: gas prices dropped below $3 a gallon (available in most states). You likely can tell from the table above that Kohl's has rallied up 42%. However, according to Yahoo! Finance, consumer confidence has dropped 'as Americans see more pain ahead.' We can attest to this since having shopped the day before Thanksgiving, there were barely any sales with shelves looking fully stocked. For that, Yahoo reported on this day how "de-influencing" can help save money and overall happiness. This is in response to social media influencers presenting product(s) and/or service(s), done in a lush, dreamy way to get those following to purchase such things while earning some commission. Looks like being an influencer is here to stay.

Being the day before Thanksgiving, mortgage rates fall even though job market still looks rather dry. Canada will be adding tariffs to US steel, irrespective to the bidding war both countries had some time last month. As you may have guessed, Bitcoin is rallying again, though some investors still are aware of any risks ahead (we say the same for other coins such as Ethereum). Remember the report on low gas prices? This was the day when peace talks were underway in Ukraine. Looking at the table above, Robinhood stocks are kicking up after looking to venture into the sports prediction markets. Lastly, to top this day off, Apple's iPhone shipments have surpassed Samsung for the first time in 14 years. Not bad for Apple, having announced those layoffs on Monday.

Walmart hits an all-time high today, which is no surprise given it's the Friday after Thanksgiving. Speaking of spending, Comcast looking to place an offer for Warner Bros. Discovery and their streaming platform; the other who made a bid was Paramount-Skydance. Baidu announcing layoffs due to low ad revenue, but they have also unveiled a roadmap replacing Nvidia AI chips in China (five-year roadmap). This AI race is getting more and more intense. While we're at AI, the demand from AI data centers is 'crushing US aluminum.' In other words, stocks on aluminum is sky-rocketing; adding to it, India's Adani Group is planning to invest up to $5 billion in Google India AI data centers. Google said that they'll be investing $15B over five years to build and set up an AI data center in India.
Despite the short week, it's been very good. We could say it's because of the Thanskgiving holiday or the spending expected on Black Friday—something plenty of businesses, big and small, have started earlier this month. Pairing with all these stocks was crypto, with top coins Bitcoin and Ethereum having a much better week than how things were since October. For the job market, not much other than it's still high and dry, likely no signs of recovering. You can blame it on AI and tech, but how we see it, it will present and require a new set of skills. We feel that those specializing in the education space may see their stock(s) rise; we just don't know when, given that plenty of people may opt to go back in school learning these new skills. One of the biggest shocks this week was Apple announcing some layoffs, namely in their sales division, yet iPhone shipments are still hot and active right now. Tech is here to stay, and now that President Trump signed "Genesis Mission" into play, we'll be seeing some amazing new features in the AI/tech space soon. We're not sure if that includes virtual reality—VR—as its concept seems to wear thin lately. Then again, look for this new tech: smart glasses—the big replacement for smart phones. Baidu was another company announcing layoffs, though they're hard at work having to replace Nvidia AI chips in China. All that remains to be seen, as this AI race is getting hot. Overall, it's been a very good week; something to be thankful for.
