Money Market Review (12/01/2025-12/05/2025)
Rough start, ended well as tech were steady and purchase of Warner Bros. Discover finally happened.

As comedian Lewis Black once said, "We give thanks for the things we have. Now, we start begging for the things we want!" That was in reference to Thanksgiving going into Christmas, and it still holds true. As we've said in October, we were uncertain about consumer spending going into the holidays. While it surged during Black Friday, all thanks to AI's part, it's not as rampant. Perhaps the job market is drying up; maybe because there's not enough money to spend; or citizens are watching their cash and where it should go towards. Also, what's the update on Warner Bros. Discovery, which is what we've been eyeing on ever since? Let's see how this week fared out.

Rough start to the week as you can see. Interestingly enough, Amazon will partner with Google to develop multicloud networking service. Not sure if there were any sense of gratitude, but AI helped push record sales in Black Friday, and that's incredible. Heck, construction workers are cashing in on the AI boom, so we'll be seeing plenty of AI integration there. While we're in AI, it was this day Sam Altman declared "code red" after sensing ChatGPT's rivals are gaining steam. While he's concerned about that, OpenAI bought a stake in Thrive Holdings pushing AI into accounting and IT. Combining all these AI moves shows that data center energy demand is predicted to soar nearly 300% through 2035. While that was up, Bitcoin was still coming down with a message bracing for "more volatility." If there's anything low that's good, it's gas prices falling to a 4-year low.

Popular theme part Six Flags was the talk this Tuesday. They have reported interest from multiple private equity firms, but is confident in not declaring bankruptcy in the midterm (something to watch going forward). If you're invested in Six Flags, they've been down a whopping 70% this year. Anyway, Netflix made a cash offer for Warner Bros. Discovery, but nothing set in stone yet. Speaking of buying, it's been reported that shoppers are running out of steam even though holiday sales are up. My guess is shoppers have milked out all they could with what they have left, and that's basically it. Not sure what will become of these retailers once the new year is here.

She has great 'jeans' indeed: Sydney Sweeney's campaign prompts outlook boost for American Eagle which is really cool. Wall Street shifts the AI narrative from a "bubble" to an "air pocket." Not sure how that will fare out since plenty of citizens are growing skeptical about this AI madness with regard to taking jobs: is it really, or just a cost-cutting excuse so as to not upset their shareholders?

The fact that rich and wealthy citizens are now shopping at dollar stores is telling all we need to know. That must explain why Dollar General rallies to 52-week high. Meta is cutting production for virtual reality by 30%, not seeing much competition in that space. Speaking of space, Sam Altman is looking at outer space with AI. Not sure if Sam is voluntarily doing so or if it's the competition, because Google Gemini is challenging ChatGPT. I mean, if either Microsoft or Google ends up winning the AI race, should we be surprised? Maybe our surprise comes among film studios, because Netflix is in exclusive talks with Netflix about their studio and streaming. Imagine seeing Netflix Studios across from NBCUniversal. This purchase surely is getting tighter!

Well, Netflix purchased Warner Bros. Discovery for $72B. This purchase includes their studios and streaming service. It remains to be seen what will happen, either a huge revamp of WB's studio lot and many other changes taking place; we'll keep a watch on this as always. Keeping watch involves your eyes, and Meta announced the acquirement of AI startup "Limitless," trying to jump in on the wearables tech. OpenAI's ChatGPT user growth is slowing down according to reports. We believe it's the ads plus the suggestion of purchasing products and services, which was something to be expected at some point. Since AI needs electricity, Georgia Power says it needs increases in power capacities to meet the demand for data centers. Reports like that will be commonplace as tech giants find more land to occupy their data centers.
That Warner Bros. Discovery purchase was on our radar, and to think Netflix was the winning bidder was interesting. This would modernize and allow all of WB's classics to be available in streaming, if it hasn't been already. As for WB's studios, we're not sure, but there will certainly be plenty of changes in the offices. Some people like this purchase, others don't; the changes taking place remains to be seen, given that Warner Bros. Discovery's stock went up on Friday. For tech, it still remains steady, but it's been a rough week for ChatGPT. Declaring a "code red" and seeing slow user growth is now becoming a concern among Sam Altman's workers. And seeing that Altman is looking into astronomy for AI to work and thrive is also something worth looking at. I mean, if OpenAI knows they might lose the AI race, then may as well plan another venture where you'd likely thrive, right? Anyway, stocks have been steady despite the rough start to this week, but it all closed out nicely. As I've mentioned among the consumer spending this holiday, it was expected to dry a little bit, even though there are those spending anyway. Heck, who cares about overdraft fees?
Any reaction(s) you have about Netflix purchasing Warner Bros. Discovery? Do you think crypto will jump up again? Will energy stocks continue due to data center demand? Let's talk about it in the comments section below!
