"Chumash Casino Resort Rising to a New Level" (July 2016 issue)

Over to the July issue of the Southern California Gaming Guide, this is the first issue we owned personally that represents a casino's name and their push to a "new level." You would think it's a little aggrandizing promoting a specific casino and what they're up to, but then again, there just may be something they have that other California casinos haven't.

This next thing will be the silliest thing you'll ever read: A close friend of mine admits he and his family doesn't frequent at Chumash Casino. His reason? The word "Chumash" is a close phonetic to "chew cash," meaning that Chumash Casino "chews your cash" out of you. Yeah, he's in his mid-30s and criticizes like a nine-year old. Our faces are as blank as yours.

A). Seven Things Not To Miss In July (page 6)

1. BMW 320i Giveaway at Valley View Casino & Hotel
Alright, well, this has been previously mentioned from the June 2016 issue "$1.3 Million TournEvent of Champions: Where and When to Play" which I found strange. Looks like nobody has won the prize.

2. Brian Regan at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino on July 16^th
A stand-up comedian makes an appearance, who just happened to appear on big hit shows like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Top Five and Late Show with David Letterman. Good to have a laugh every now and then.

3. 5 Mini Coopers and a BMW i8 Hybrid Giveaway at Chumash Casino Resort
That's six cars to give away, ladies and gentlemen. I mean, why isn't anyone getting dressed and rushing to the casinos for this opportunity? If I knew I had a big chance at winning a car, I may as well take that chance. No harm in trying, right?

4. Barona Lottery at Barona Resort & Casino
Would this be a welcome chance for those who didn't win the Mega Millions and/or Power Ball lotteries? Winning lotteries, big or small, is such a tough gamble given the odds are incredibly lower than normal. You may as well play roulette.

5. $100,000 Cash Avengers 2 at Sycuan Casino
That name—Cash Avengers 2. You know what I'll say next: When is the next Avengers? Will it be the $250,000 Cash Avengers: The Age of Ultron? Perhaps they jump to the $1,000,000 Cash Avengers: Infinity War? Someone working for Sycuan must be a proud Marvel fan (rest in peace, Stan Lee).

6. Cruisin' California at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa and Spa Resort Casino
How this works is they get two players to compete against each other to snag the $5,000, which includes a Cruisin' California trip for two. Apparently, it's a luxurious and exotic trip around California. They never mentioned if this luxury trip was sponsored by 1-800-SANDALS, but hey, it had to be mentioned!

7. Jerry Seinfeld at Chumash Casino Resort on July 21^st
Okay, it's Jerry Seinfeld hosting a gig at Sycuan. What more needs to be said?

B). July 2016 Gaming News (pages 10 & 12)

- $1.3 Million National TournEvent of Champions
Looks like they're holding this event again, due to the success of the winners in June. The tournament very much works similarly to the poker tournaments: Be the player to score the highest points to advance up. The "top dog" then wins the million dollar prize. From my perspective, those players with the mindset of the pro poker players should be able to navigate through this tournament just fine. Other than that, this is one of the most successful tournaments I have seen.

- $50,000 Sizzlin Summer Slot Tournament at Valley View Casino & Hotel
Another slot tournament but only at the Valley View Casino & Hotel. What's different about this is the grand prize is shared among the top winners. This should favor the player(s) a little better, but after all your hard work, are you ready to split the winnings? The decision is yours to make.

- Celebrate July 4^th at the Casino
Spa Resort Casino is holding a Sandsational Summer which is a sand castle-building competition; Valley View Casino & Hotel has the Great Big Summer Giveaway; Sycuan Casino has a special 4th of July session at their Sycuan Bingo room, and Chumash Casino Resort has Buddy Night Bingo. You want to know what sucks about all these events? Not once did the featuring of fireworks was mentioned. Not everyone will win and not everyone will participate, so how about a little something to ease the time spent at the casinos, like fireworks?

- Lucky Chula Vista Guest Wins $1.22 Million Jackpot at Sycuan Casino
A woman by the name of Falina R. from Chula Vista, San Diego, won this big prize. What more can I say? She's probably still in the middle of her luxury European trip as I'm typing this. Congratulations, Falina!

Oh, and the issue mentioned this happened on May 25^th. And it's being reported on the July issue?

C). Reader's Choice: 2016 Best Slots (pages 14 & 15)
Any companies out there that produce slot machines? Here are the results:

Impressive. Did your slot machine rank up here? Whether it was or wasn't, I myself prefer the underrated ones—namely that one slot featuring Chinese cuisine. Yeah, I completely forgot the name of that machine.
