Money Market Review (01/26/2026-01/30/2026)

Started strong this week, then ended lower due to possible government shutdown.

Started strong this week, until talks about a possible government shutdown became imminent. Just when things looked good, it dries up, and does so very quickly. Also, what's happening with Bitcoin and other digital currencies? Looks like Gold and Silver remain supreme.

Gold and Silver is still reigning as usual. The company Tether bought nearly 30 tons of gold in their fourth quarter. Talk about striking it rich. One of the more "interestingly funny" news is Microsoft having a new AI chip looking to make Amazon, Google, Nvidia jealous, if you will. Also, looking at the stocks that stood out this Monday, you noticed that Revolution Medicines dropped (-16.91%). This is because talks about acquiring Merck fell through.

Shipments are going to get interesting, yet challenging, this year as UPS will cut 30,000 operational jobs, despite beating earnings. Speaking of losing, it's been said that US banks might lose upwards of $500B to stablecoins by the year 2028. That must mean that even though digital currency is slipping a bit, that would mean we'll be venturing into it anyway—the dollar may lose its value over time. On the topic of losing value, this was the day TikTok and Snap look to settle social media addiction lawsuit. There's been more than enough said about social media and its mental effects, but it bares being reported especially for shareholders/investors.

Meta, Microsoft and IBM beat their estimated earnings. Tesla, not able to beat their estimated earnings, stated this day that they'll be focusing on AI robotics—investing in clean energy in addition. Also on this day, Amazon announces they'll be cutting 16,000 jobs due to the competition in AI. Just when those able to work at the most popular companies in the world, suddenly they get the ax. Gold continues to rally, hitting the $5,400 mark thanks to President Trump's comments about the dollar. While we're on the topic of President Trump, Truth Social looks to plan in acquiring God Bless America ETF. Lastly, Waymo plans to launch their operations in London by fourth quarter of 2026.

Despite the mixed results on this day's markets, there were plenty that went on. Apple acquired Q.ai in an effort to revamp Siri into a chatbot. They're hoping to challenge Google's Gemini. Apple, Visa, Western Digital, Sandisk and Deckers all have beaten their estimated earnings. Gold is on fire, reaching the $5,500 mark on this day. Former First Brands CEO and his brother are in trouble for milking billions of dollars from banks. However, I'm sure they'd want to place those billions in investing because Amazon is doing just that: in talks about putting down a $50B investment in OpenAI. Speaking of AI, here's a question you don't hear very often: Why does Elon Musk want to put AI data centers in space? Interesting, as stocks were tanking for OpenAI, Sam Altman was looking to shift his focus in space. We might see some technocratic developments and governance in regards to space this year—something to look out for.

Perhaps it's the possible government shutdown or President Trump's Fed pick, but either way, stocks tanked as a result. Worse, Gold plunged below the $5,000 mark, dropping more than $500 from the previous days. Speaking of drops, stocks for video games slide due to Google's AI being able to create worlds. What would this mean for game developers going forward? Not much to say nor report on this day, but what started with a great week, ended strangely in a bad way.

MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW FOR THIS WEEK (01/26/2025-01/30/2026)

Tough week going into the close. It's nothing new, where weeks have started strong until end of the week, closed lower heading to Friday. For Microsoft, they've been down more than 10% this week—talks about wanting a more AI-driven operating system is now being pulled back by them (also, in part of negative word-of-mouth among users everywhere). One of the things that stood out for me this week was Elon Musk wanting to host AI data centers in space. If this leads us to branch into doing and creating operations and products for the sake of space, then this is something to look forward to. Other than that, talks about a possible government shutdown, reflective of what happened in October 2025 and Gold plunging due to President Trump's choice for Fed proved to be a rough Friday to close the week. Digital currency? Continues to dry up, as we're not sure if there's any spec of light at the tunnel's end. Much like the stormy, cold weather, it's been a depressing week.

What did you think going into this week? Will Gold continue its run going into next week? What will hold in terms of AI relative to other tech stocks? Let's talk all about it in the comments section below!
