Redner's Warehouse Markets: Teriyaki Marinade
An underrated but wonderful brand that brings about the amazing teriyaki taste. The saltiness can easily be controlled and leveled while meshing well with the food you're marinating this in.
Having searched for an alternative, and something to simply give a try, I went ahead and picked this up. As you can tell, there's a "Fruity Flavor" tab on the front label, telling me this is a little on the sweet side. Teriyaki marinades need not be salty so this marinade is perfect for it, in my case, pork chops.
I went on and julienne-cut the chops, teriyaki chicken style, and applied the marinade. Only other spices I added were salt and pepper. Having left the pork in this marinade overnight, I pan-fried the pork chops with a small dab of canola oil. After, I went and tasted it and found it very delicious. The marinade is not overpowering whatsoever, and as with most marinades, overnight is highly recommended. Like the label implies, it's on the sweet side which is perfect for those who don't want something with a high amount of salinity (despite its sodium contents). However, if you are one of those who like the marinade salty, applying your favorite salt—table salt, sea salt, kosher salt, grey salt, or any salt you may have in your pantry. I do feel there could be a little more contrast in terms of the marinade's content, but I still think it's worth using on your favorite meats or fish.
The product itself isn't bank-breaking and is perfect for the budget conscience. Nevertheless, this is a great alternative to other marinades out there. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised (in a good way).
- The salt content can be balanced while bring about a clean, great taste of the teriyaki. Meshing nicely with nearly any type of meat, fish or rice along with other spices that your recipe calls for.
