DAISO Japan Large Mens Chopsticks (Rosewood Finish)
Affordable, but amazing, pair of chopsticks from the popular Japanese thrift store DAISO Japan!
Anime is one of the most popular entertainment genres today. If you watch closely, you'll learn plenty about Japanese culture, their customs, what's behaviorally acceptable/respectable, and much more. For that, it's no surprise Japanese culture is infiltrating American soil (hello, Shohei Ohtani fans). Sixties witnessed "British Invasion," and so, will we now declare "Japanese Invasion?" Being born here in the US, ethnically of Filipino-Spanish descent, also having had a respect for Japanese culture, it's fine with me; and so, to embrace my Asian side, let's take a look at some chopsticks from DAISO!
With a rosewood finish, measuring close to 9 ½ inches, these chopsticks are one of the best we've used. Given its length, longer than wooden, disposable ones you get at restaurants and/or grocery sections that sell sushi, using these will take time getting used to. Unlike disposable chopsticks, these ones have that parabolic-like structure—top-wise is thick, ends are thin and roughly pointy. This finish grips nicely when holding and/or scooping up portion(s) of your food. However, there are no ridges at the tip, making these chopsticks for those who are experienced in using them. (Yes, DAISO does sell 'training chopsticks' for those wanting to learn.) As for the material itself, it's wooden smooth, does not chip quickly, and very easy to clean. It is also very light-weight and durable (assuming it's taken cared of).
You may have noticed in the packaging that these chopsticks are "Large Mens." Perhaps it's the chopsticks' length, likely made for men with large hands. My hand, as an example from wrist to top of middle finger, measures over 7 ½ inches. These chopsticks took time getting used to, but fits nicely with my hands; I'm more right-handed, given that I write with my right. For men with larger hands, and/or thicker fingers, these chopsticks will suit you best. As for those with smaller hands, yes, there are chopsticks that are smaller in length, easier to hold, and similar structure. Anyway, the label may indicate this is for men, but we're sure women can use it too. Oh, and given its length, it can be used for cooking (we recommend longer chopsticks made for cooking, instead of these).
Not sure if there's some weird chopstick shortage at our local grocery store where we shop, but it feels great owning your own pair, and these are no exception. With its beautiful red, wooden finish, these are one of the best chopsticks we've used and are still using today. By the way, if you're a California resident, this product does not include the Prop 65 warning label, making this a healthy choice—HUGE plus for that. Yes, we can joke about how we're all "turning Japanese," but we'll let the internet do that part.
