Knights vs Samurai (2, October 2024)

Taking a look at this action-packed comic book series on one of the most famous duels of all time!

Second issue of the Knights vs. Samurai series, after we left off with our armored men, reached a land filled with mysterious beings they encountered. Some of you likely guessed that these mysterious beings they encountered are the samurais, and you guessed right! Talk about negotiating tactics, because this entire issue was filled with action; and that will be further elaborated in this review.

It all started with a stand-off, where the leader of the Samurais, Okashira, tells his army to hold—or cease fire, if you will. That is, until one of them shot an arrow to one of the knights' head. You can already tell that's when things went down. Sounds of swords whipping and slashing each other, blood drawn, arms ripped and heads decapitated—all things you'd expect in a war of this level. Knight's side, Priest was in bad shape due to fighting; and oddly enough, from the side of Samurai's, Okashira made it clear in keeping the Priest alive. Then we get a short scene with Captain Baggi back from the ship, which is followed by the contiuation of the war.

With some winning and some dead, Captain Charles Ward of the Knights finally confronts Okashira. Neither of them understand each other, yet either one hopes to surrender as a means of having the upper hand. Due to language barrier, both leaders went on to fight anyway. Who won, and what happens after, is a scene that wraps up this issue.

This was only the second issue, and was action-packed so far. It was a bit amusing to see one of the Samurais look like Darth Maul—a popular character from Star Wars. That short scene with Captain Baggi was alright, as a way to give readers a break from all that fighting, but otherwise, the whole story in this issue was told well.

The drawings and illustrations were amazing as always. Given that the fighting scenes did feature some violent occurrences, they were drawn well. Because of that, this may not be for those who are a bit sensitive with regard to violent themes or scenes. Otherwise, having two pages fully drawn of the fight taking place looked fantastic.

Since this was written in a way where readers will have to purchase and read the next issue to find out what happened, it's enough to keep your curiosities up as it did for us. It's only a matter of time we see some tables turned and some twists in this story—something you'd expect, along with some high-brow moments. Regardless, this issue is a treat for those enjoying the series already along with those who love action scenes.
