The Numbers Are In (2025): Week 05 Recap

This week saw nearly half the scheduled games decided by their last play. Some unlikely teams fought the good fight, while others didn't do so well. Some records were broken, while others won on the side of betting. This week was all about thrills, with comebacks, deemed unlikely, happened among some games. The most impressive thing we witnessed this week? The announcer for Dolphins-Panthers game. See below.

Battle of California was a nice treat here in Thursday Night Football. Both teams held strong until that late play sealing the deal for San Francisco in overtime. It gave Rams a run for their gameplay, and so did the betting; as 49ers hit the "Grand Slam" winning all three sections. You can tell that less than half of bettors had their money on San Francisco, leaving them with a big payout. Still, the game itself was a thrill.

The first game to be played on Sunday from the beautiful city of London. While there were some great plays, it was a nice treat for UK fans having gone down to the wire. Some interceptions, some sacks, yet fantastic pass completions for the touchdowns; and that's in regards to both teams. For betting, bettors cleaned house with the Vikings, having won all three sections. A great "Grand Slam" for the Vikings.

There's nothing more need to be said about this game; Colts handled this the whole time. Better yet, Indianapolis hit the "Grand Slam" betting-wise. Really, this blowout leaves nothing much to be said.

While this game started slow for the Saints, it began picking up, all thanks to Rashid Shaheed's touchdown. Granted, interceptions were the Giants' enemy. As the game went on, Saints had it under control and won. Despite the season struggles, Saints were the favorites coming in, hitting that "Grand Slam" among betting. Pretty good, as Saints won for the fans and bettors, despite being their very first win this season.

Cowboys made this game look easy, despite coming in as underdogs. Jets still have yet to see a winning season, but their efforts here wasn't enough. Given that Cowboys took control of this game, it's no surprise they won among bettors—winning all three for that "Grand Slam." Not much else to say, but the Cowboys looked like their winning selves in this game.

"The Broncos have their signature win," the commentator on CBS said. Eagles handled this game just fine until the fourth quarter, where Broncos slowly crept their way in. With no flag thrown on the last play, plus some additional points for Denver, Broncos handed Eagles their first loss. While Denver didn't hit the "Grand Slam" in terms of betting, it's a beauty when an underdog wins on their opponents' turf.

Another game that came down to the wire! Dolphins had this game in control, until the 'cats' snuck their way through. While Carolina nearly hit that "Grand Slam" on the betting side, we want to praise the real winner of this game: FOX NFL announcer Eric Collins. What an exciting voice! If more announcers were like him, every game would be worth watching. Take note, NFL; maybe it's not so much the quality of play, but network announcers. Excellent work, Eric Collins!

Texans were too much for the Ravens this game. Baltimore only scored one touchdown and that was it. Houston also cleaned house on the betting side with a "Grand Slam." That's about it, this game was in the books already.

This was another game where one team had everything under control, only to lose it. All that described the Cardinals, yet Titans found a way—and did. Titans sealed the deal with a field goal. Better yet, Tennessee hit the "Grand Slam" for those who bet, coming in as underdogs. Looks like bettors had a huge payday from this game, thanks to the Titans.

Here was another thrilling game, as both teams kept up; it was a seesaw match. Also, both teams opted for two-point conversions—most that we've seen so far. As with the Titans-Cardinals game, this came down to the final field goal. Better yet, bettors had a huge payday with a Tampa Bay "Grand Slam." Another excellent game this Sunday.

Lions led all throughout, though the Bengals did a great job trying to fight back. Some great plays from both Lions and Bengals with regard to touchdowns, making it a great game. Bettors also saw a huge payday with Detroit getting that "Grand Slam." Another game that was fun to watch, but also profitable.

What was impressive about this game was continuous fight by the Commanders; they didn't quit and were able to regain control. Not sure what happened with the Chargers, but they couldn't get a grip on Commanders' defense.

Good, fun game for Sunday Night, despite the Bills looking a bit dry. Patriots looked and played great all throughout, stunning the Bills. Almost hitting that "Grand Slam," bettors still cashed in on Point Spread and Money Line. While there were some key plays, Patriots looked solid the entire game. Not a bad game for Sunday Night.

This is another one of those games where you ask, "what happened?" We'd like to ask such question to Kansas City. The defending champions had no problem with Jacksonville, yet Jaguars kept up. Changes in lead led to the final play, where Jaguars scored a touchdown. For betting, you can see that only 7% of bettors wagered the Money Line—a bet which won. Looked like the Chiefs were about to win, until late plays gave Jaguar this win. It was a great Monday Night game.

There were plenty of game that impressed, both for fans and bettors. We also saw some streaks end, so there are currently no undefeated teams remaining. Nearly half the games broadcasted concluded upon a team's final play, deciding who wins. Once again, having been blown out of proportion were the Raiders. As mentioned in previous weeks, the Raiders' struggles seem to reflect that of their city's ailing economy. Makes you wonder if business picks up in Las Vegas, will the Raiders be good again? Sunday Night's game with the Patriots and Bills gave New England something to be optimistic about. Assuming they remain consistent in a way such that they handled business against Bills, they may just go far this season. Oh, and how about those Jaguars roaring against the Chiefs like that? It was a bold move picking them to win, and that we saw.

We want to close this recap with the one we've been impressed with: Announcer Eric Collins, calling the Dolphins-Panthers game. Given that we tune into sports, preferrably, on the radio instead of TV/streaming, as we are not subscribed to any streaming platform, we hope Eric Collins is able to announce games on radio—WestwoodOne Sports, if anything. We heard his voice through video highlights, and loved his style of announcing. Here's hoping FOX, CBS, NFL Network, ESPN and/or various sports networks, plus sports radio flagship stations or affiliates, assign him to more games! (That's assuming Collins announces games that aren't blocked in our area, as we currently reside in California.) Sports leagues cry wolf about ratings and trying to attract new, young sports fans. We're not experts in consumer behavior, but we'll say that announcers play a huge role in keeping viewers tuned in; and we believe fun announcers, like Eric Collins, can garner viewers/listeners with his style. Teams won their respective games, and bettors cashed in on their bets; but from our vantage point, announcer Eric Collins is a winner for us.
