"Excuse Me, Your Soul Mate Is Waiting" by Marla Martenson
Simple writing providing great advice to find that special person in your life. Doesn't use suggestions similar to what's portrayed in romantic movies.

I can hear it now: "hey Kris, what are you doing with a book like that?" I couldn't help myself, and you already know my current status (not that it matters). There are times you get lost in your love life that you need to get back on the right track, and be reminded about it. As mentioned in another review, I'm nearly down to no friends so I may as well need a bit of guidance, particularly in my love life.
The book seems like it's only written for women, but Martenson also addresses men as well. The book is written so simply that you can read it all in one sitting (including the assignments, all of which are provided in each chapter).
What Marla is conveying is being positive, knowing what you want, believing in it and living it. After years of reading about relationships, signs that show a girl likes me and so on, it seems like something I already knew. However, the book did help me dissolve my excessive pickiness. That's not to say I'm the best looking guy around, but I certainly was very picky (thanks to the book, eliminating my picky eyes boosted my confidence more). Another thing I learned was why people stay in relationships hoping their partner will change which helped me learn about the girls of my past. You know, of all the girls I tried to date/court, all of them left me and went for jerks. Marla admitted to doing this, but then states there's no purpose in doing so. It almost reminds me of paying an arm and leg for an ultra-rare collectible video game: you finally got it, then afterwards, the novelty wears off and you eventually move on (looks like those girls were never meant for me, which is fine now that I can settle for someone much better).
Never was I considered a pessimist, even though I used to be friends with one. However, Marla's tips did help me be more positive and to see the bright side of things. Whether it's building this website or working on a film project, I have strong dedication and high hopes; however, in my love life, I can only hope for so long, to be honest. (Mainly due to the damage the girls did to me, as I realized I was attracting the wrong types of girls, and was being too nice. It was tough to get back up, but thankfully everything is now clean and clear.)
Anyway, anyone who's lost as to where their love life stands, having second thoughts about getting in a rebound relationship, or if you need clear straight-forward advice on focusing who is best for you, will enjoy this book.
For me, it was a simple read. In addition to learning to keep head strong and 'keep the buzz going,' I didn't learn too much. Possibly because I've read, for years, about the ways of loving and making your girlfriend happy, what to and what not to say, never bringing up the past and being honest about everything. (It's not that I don't know how to, but I like knowing everything about it so I can clear any discrepancies before sharing my happiness and my life with her, while making myself a better person and knowing and appreciating the person I am. You guessed it: I'm doing all this for her.)
I've got to tell you: I grew up with acquaintances who'd get so envious of the girls I try to talk and court that they try to con me out in order to steal her from me (yes, seriously). I grew up with the most envious, selfish and conniving people one was so lucky to have survive through. With this freedom (thank you, existentialism), I feel confident as ever and can happily connect with a girl emotionally and seriously without bombardment from others, interruption and having to hear jealous dudes telling me how they're better looking I am, more slick and a better dresser than I am and able to attract more girls than I do (no joke: I knew a few people who did this, as a means of jealously putting me down like I'm a threat to their livelihood). I finally get show her what my heart is made of and build a future for both of us, and this book helped clear out the debris down my path, making the road to the Love Empyrean that much easier. I feel more confident now than I did last month, all thanks to a simple self-help book. Of course, when it comes to Love, I let things fall in place. As Marla stated, when you find your soul mate, that's your other half; you are meant for each other and nothing can keep you away from each other.
Not a bad read, nonetheless.
