Kentucky Fried Chicken®: Colonel's Chocolate Chip Cookie

A simple treat from a restaurant chain known for its delicious fried chicken.

Why, of course, KFC offer sweet treats as a contrast to their famous indulgences, that is, fried chicken. It's no question since you do need some sort of 'balance' when enjoying your favorite meals from the famous restaurant by Colonel Sanders. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that after publishing this review, that you're currently reading, KFC may release their own package of cookies just to snag the market share against popular brands out there. Now that I think about it, how many brands of cookies are there?

Anyway, this cookie was given as a treat to go along with my order of their amazing chicken sandwiches. I'm not sure if this often goes with it, or the clerk was nice enough to include it as a complimentary treat. Either way, complimentaries are good and make customers happy. I'm not saying we deserve free stuff but sometimes, customers ought to earn something for being nice (doing that should separate the good and the bad ones, let alone should be charging more if a customer is rude). When I found this cookie in the bag, I just smiled because I know KFC doesn't often include this in our orders, which left me thinking, "yeah, compliments of the clerk, it looks like, and I'm so thankful for her service." I'm not saying this is true of all KFC branches, but if you're nice when making your order, who knows? The clerk and/or the manager may add in this treat for being patient with them, when working on your order(s).

The cookie, packaged individually like a fortune cookie, has a chewy texture. For those who love their cookies on the crunchy side may not favor this, unless you're not the picky type, but nevertheless, the chewy cookie fans will find this to be a huge compliment to their meal(s). The chocolate tastes just right with its sweetness, and not too strong—not too dark a taste either, as dark chocolate is quite sharp. No matter what chicken meal you ordered, the sweet taste of this cookie makes it enjoyable, moreso cutting through the salty ingredients from the chicken.

You recall the commercial that soda tastes good with fried chicken? Well for those who have limited, or completely, cut out soda off their diets, this cookie is enough to ease off the taste from the already-delicious chicken. If you're the ones who got this as compliment from your friendly KFC clerk, think of it as a "thank you" for being such a nice customer. As someone who worked in customer service, I know I'd do the same thing to someone who was being nice and patient with me. Did I place a big order that time? Yes, since it was a special occasion. Again, I'm not sure if clerks compliment a big order with this cookie or not, but regardless, I see this is a sign of courtesy. There was no need to get aggravated nor "Karen-like," especially since my order didn't take that long. It is my personal belief that your patience will get rewarded, even if it's later down the line.

Whether you received this as a complimentary treat or added it with your purchase, it's a tender, soft cookie that you'll enjoy after feeding yourself the delicious taste of their fried chicken. As mentioned earlier, this is a great pairing with your meal if you've shunned out soda or any sweet drinks. Personally, not only does this cookie taste delicious and good, but it brings a smile to my face. Receiving this as a "thank you" for being nice makes my day, and it may make yours if you place a big order yet show enough patience to the workers diligently completing your order. For that, I want to thank both KFC and the woman behind the counter for this treat. I agree: Award customers just for being good and who treat you well. Kindness is becoming very hard to find among people nowadays—just look at customer/employee meltdown videos online, and you'll see what I mean.

Once again, thank you KFC and the female clerk! (I believe the clerk's name was Maria, but I don't remember.)

I bought 24 cookies from KFC in La Plata Maryland to get to the doctors. I don’t know when they change the recipe but a long time ago. The cookies were fresh and soft. When you took a bite the cookies they made these days do not taste good.
